Anjanisari Ramadhani
8.22.2026-10.10.2026
Can art making take hold in the acts of reproduction and preservation? Can we redefine what it means to ‘create’ in the current economy and reconstruct the expectation of producing new work? To imagine what could be material — drippings, trash, waste — and engage with the possibilities of the ‘discarded’?
Anjanisari Ramadhani traces New York City through gesture/movement, taking ground of the cities’ landscape in its cycles of commute, of drainage, of garbage collection. She observes the lives of materials as they are discarded, gathered and reused; their value marked by the temporal cycles of utility. What becomes once these materials go to “waste”? For Ramadhani, the question reveals the fragility of material value across the mundane: An object becomes valuable through aesthetic intervention, manufactured to become ‘new’ and refined; removing any indicators of crack, leak and wear — sanitising any mark of worthlessness. Rather than engaging in the sequence of removal, Ramadhani roots her art-making in its reproduction and recontextualisation.
She deconstructs the expectations of producing art by working with their histories, allowing the life that has once taken hold of the city—its systems of circulation, maintenance, construction and disposal—to reveal themselves. In this sense, Ramadhani’s practice approaches the condition of the satellite: witnessing the movements that make up place. She documents the possibilities of place-displacement through its fragments and residues, gathering materials as an attempt to build a container of memory, to (de)construct the temporality of location through materials that have been dispersed.
In Satellite, Ramadhani orchestrates the gallery as a site of reorientation: discarded materials has become landmarks. Perhaps Ramadhani reveals that artistry takes form as a condition and a method—an orbit around a place, an observation from a slight distance, and an ongoing attempt to find location.
Ramadhani is a Queens born, raised, and based artist working in the realm of Sculpture and Archives. She received her BFA from The Cooper Union in 2022. In recent years, she has worked as an Archivist in public and private spaces, for libraries, artists and historical landmark preservationists. This facet of her practice shares the same spirit of Satellite, where capturing and preserving a lived experience is the basis for art making.
